In ihrem neuesten Werk „About Negotiation“ konfrontieren die Künstler David Siepert und Stefan Baltensperger ein soeben in einer Metropole angekommenes Wanderarbeiter-Paar mit dem Angebot, ihnen ihr komplettes mitgeführtes Hab und Gut abzukaufen. Mit diesem ethisch fragwürdigen Angebot stellen die Künstler die persönlichen Gegenstände des Paares in einen wirtschaftlichen Wertekontext. Sie provozieren eine Verhandlung über materielle und emotionale Werte sowie über kulturelle Prinzipien.
In den Untertiteln eröffnet sich eine weitere kulturelle Verhandlungsebene. Durch die unmittelbare Übersetzung vor Ort und die Gegenüberstellung mit der wörtlichen Übersetzung, werden kultur- und sprachimmanente Unterschiede fragmental sicht- und wahrnehmbar.

Stefan Baltensperger und David Siepert beschäftigen sich mit Fragestellungen zu geopolitischen Machtbeziehungen und deren gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen. Ihre Projekte zielen darauf ab, politische und postkoloniale Strukturen zu untersuchen und sichtbar zu machen. Zentral ist dabei die Frage, wie sich Individuen in einer globalisierten Welt definieren und verorten können und was es in unterschiedlichen kulturellen Zusammenhängen bedeutet, Mensch zu sein.
Meist definieren sie ihre Werke nicht anhand der materiellen Produktion, sondern anhand der Potentialität, Diskurse sichtbar zu machen und partiell zu manipulieren. Das politische Ereignis dient ihnen dabei mitunter als Alibi um einen Verhandlungsraum zu öffnen, in dem über vorgestellte Themen nachgedacht werden kann.
In “About Negotiation”, David Siepert and Stefan Baltensperger confront a pair of migrant workers who have just arrived in the metropolis, with the offer to buy all of the belongings the travellers have carried with them. The artists use this ethically questionable offer to place the personal belowings of the pair in a framework of economic value. They provoke a negotiation of emotional and material value, as well as cultural principles.
The subtitle reveal a further level of cultural discourse. The comparison of the immediate on the spot translation with the more literal subtitles fragmentally expose cultural and language immanent differences.

Stefan Baltensperger and David Siepert occupy themselves with questioning geopolitical power structures and their effects on society. Their projects aim to investigate political and post-colonial structures and to make them visible. A central question is how individuals in a globalised world can define and locate themselves, and what it means in diverse cultural contexts to be human.
Generally they define their works not in terms of their material products, rather in their potentiality to expose and partially manipulate discourse. Political events serve as an alibi for opening a space for negotiation where the presented themes may be reflected upon.
