Kuhgitter in der Einfahrt zu einer privaten Kunstsammlung im Quartier Zürich – Seefeld.
Nähert sich eine Person, beginnt die Neon- Unterleuchtung zu flackern. Aufmerksamkeit und Neugier wird generiert. Dem Mittel der elektrischen Fliegenfalle nachempfunden, werden die passierenden auf das Kuhgitter und damit in einen Zustand zwischen dem Innen und Aussen, zwischen dem öffentlichen und Privaten, in dem sie kaum sicheren Halt finden, geführt.

As a person approaches, the neon lighting under the grid begins to flicker, grabbing the attention and awakening the curiosity. Modelled on the effect exploited by an electric fly trap, passersby are lured onto the cattle-grid, and thus into a state between in and out, private and public, where they will hardly find certainty in their standing.
An entrance embodies disparate functions. It demarcates a threshold between within and without, at the same time serves as the place where we may cross over that threshold. An entrance invites and repels at the same time. It is at once symbolic and functional. It seems that everything about it is dichotomous.
I am interested in the dualities people set in their minds. I do not claim to be immune to drawing these lines; on the contrary. Like anybody I have developed my own social rules and personal boundaries.
The basis is my culture, which not only allows free spaces, but sets clear boundaries. My culture is based on regional and national identities, religious beliefs, the influence of my parents, existential fears and unattainable desires, which all together combine to form a safe network preventing my mind from losing itself in infinity.
So despite the duality of enclosure and exclusion saving us from losing ourselves in the chaos and anarchy of our own minds, the converse is that the quest for stability and security become a prison to the mind and restrict our perception.
